FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I FOUND A DRESS THAT I LOVE! WHAT DO I DO NOW?

Click that little “Interested in this Dress?” button on the dress’s style page and fill out the form. You can also contact us directly via email if you prefer. A member of our team will reach out to you so we can make your dream dress a reality.

We’ll send you information about the dress, locate retailers near you, and make arrangements for a sample to be made available for your appointment. If we can’t find a current retailer near you, we’ll make arrangements with a local shop so you can have an appointment a little closer to home.

WHERE CAN I BUY A BARBARA KAVCHOK GOWN?

Check out our list of retailers here to find one close to you. If you’re looking to try on a specific Barbara Kavchok style, please let them know so we can make sure a sample is available for your appointment.

Don’t see a shop close to your city? Let us know and we’ll make arrangements with a local shop to host our samples for your appointment.

CUSTOMIZATIONS?

Since each gown is handmade, the customization options are truly endless for every style. Like the top of one style and the skirt of another? You can mix and match! Add sleeves, change the necklines, choose a different fabric or anything else you can dream up. Say “so long” to settling, because we can make your wedding dress exactly what you want it to be.

Also since we use so many unique laces, some even handpainted, we offer the option of a custom veil to match your gown!

CUSTOM DRESSES/DESIGNS?

If you have something specific in mind for your wedding day, we can design and craft a custom gown just for you. Please send us an email if you are interested in a custom wedding dress!

HOW MUCH DOES A DRESS COST?

Each gown is handmade to order, ethically and sustainably, in our Historic Bethlehem, PA studio. The prices of our gowns vary depending on the style and customizations. On average, our gowns start at $2,500.

CAN I BUY A WEDDING GOWN DIRECTLY FROM YOU/SHOP ONLINE?

With the exception of our Joy Capsule Collection or a bride with an appointment at the Barbara Kavchok Atelier, we do not sell wedding dresses directly to our brides. This is simply because we want you to look and feel like the best version of yourself on your wedding day.

Just like haircuts, there are some things we need to leave to the professionals! Bridal stylists and consultants have the knowledge and expertise to properly measure, fit, style, and recommend alterations to brides. They are very important and necessary in the wedding dress process and it wouldn’t be wise to exclude them.

SIZING?

We design for everyBODY, so we offer an inclusive sizing range or the option to have your dress made to your measurements. After all, there is nothing that makes you feel more amazing than wearing a dress that fits just right!

WHY DOES MY DRESS TAKE SO LONG TO BE MADE?

We believe in slow fashion which means trading mass-produced cheap dresses for ones ethically and sustainably handmade with care and attention to detail. When you order one of our gowns, you are put into a queue of orders for brides also waiting for their dream dress to be made. The time your order is in the queue allows us to source the necessary materials for your dress, which can take some time to arrive (thanks, shipping delays!). Not to worry though, we ask for your wedding date on the order so we can make sure your dress is finished well before your special day.

Sometimes, depending on our production schedule, we can accommodate rush orders. This is a case-by-case basis, of course, but if you’re in need of your dress in a hurry please let your bridal stylist or consultant know.

Our best advice is to order your wedding dress at least 6 months in advance to give time for production, time for alterations, and generally make your life much easier.

WHY SHOULD I SHOP FOR MY WEDDING DRESS SO FAR IN ADVANCE?

Planning a wedding can be a lot, but scrambling to find a wedding dress last minute is an absolute nightmare. If you shop at least 6 months ahead you allow plenty of time for your dress to be ordered, crafted, received, and altered.

Plus, with the unpredictability of ever-increasing costs, buying earlier allows you to lock in the price of your dress. As of late, we’ve seen the cost of materials drastically increase so you can end up spending more than you originally planned if you wait to order.

WHAT DO I BRING TO MY FIRST APPOINTMENT AT THE BK ATELIER?

We love when brides bring any inspiration photos they have, their ideas, and a positive attitude. At your appointment, you’ll be working directly with Barbara to find and customize (or create!) your dream wedding dress. If you can’t find exactly what you want or are having difficulty envisioning the finished dress with customizations, Barbara can sketch something for you right then and there. Working directly with the designer definitely has its perks!

WHAT DO I BRING TO MY FIRST FITTING APPOINTMENT FOR MY DRESS?

There’s a blog post that we wrote on this topic actually! Find it here.

TLDR; Bring the exact shoes and undergarments you’ll be wearing on your wedding day. Decide if comfort or the look is more important to you (it’ll decide what route to take with alterations).
